Today in this article we will tell you What are Broken Links and How to find Broken Links. The dead link on your site is called broken links that affect both your website ranking and user experience very badly.
When a user clicks on the post or link to your blog or website and that link shows error 404 page not found, then it called Broken Links. Broken links are also called dead links. It does not affect only visitors. it also put a negative impact on your website ranking.
First, you have to install and activate the Broken Link Checker plugin on your WordPress site. You can download it for free from wordpress.org and this plugin is also a very popular plugin.
After installing and activating the plugin, click on Settings >> Link Checker.
Then click on the "Looks for Links in" tab and select Posts, page, comments and wherever you want to find Broken links.
Now, click on the "save changes" button.
Now you can see your broken links status on the General tab. Sometimes it may take time to find broken links. Therefore, wait some time, So that plugin can check all dead links on your site. You can see in the screenshot below.
To fix Broken links, Click on the Tools >> Broken links. By clicking on the Broken links tab, you can see all the broken links with a status code on your site.
Now, move the mouse pointer to the dead link, where you will see several options.
Your broken link also shows the status code. You can simply click on the "unlink" link to fix broken links. But I recommend you to update links instead of unlinking them.
Note: If you are using Affiliate Links, it will show as redirected links, So do not fix Affiliate Links.
When you fix broken links from your site, uninstall the plugin from your site. The Broken Link Checker plugin adds lots of tables to your WordPress database, which can slow down your website. You can use the WP-DB Manager plugin to delete these tables.
Run the broken link checker plugin on your site once every 6 months.
