How to Install WordPress Theme: Beginners Guide

If you have just started the WordPress Blog, then a default theme is already installed on your site. You can change it easily anytime. There are plenty of free and paid WordPress themes available on the market. Each WordPress theme comes with a unique design that allows building a professional looking website in minutes. Today in this article we will tell you how to install WordPress theme.

How to Install WordPress Theme


Installing a WordPress theme is not a hard task. You can install it on your site in minutes. If you want to use free themes on your site then you can install a theme from WordPress repository and this is the easiest way. Here we will tell you  3 different ways to install WordPress theme.

  1. Search and install

  2. Upload and install

  3. Using FTP method


So, let's get started...

Search and install


This is the fastest and easiest way to install WordPress theme. Simply, click on  Appearance >> Themes >> Add New.

Now write the name of the WordPress theme in the search box at the top right, now you can see the theme in Search Result. Here I searched for Hueman. After that click on the Install button, WordPress theme installation will start and you will see a success message with Activate link.

Click on Activate button, now you have successfully installed and activated your new WordPress theme.

Upload and install


Using the first method you can only install themes from the WordPress repository. But if you want to install Premium WordPress Theme on your site, then you have to use this method.

First of all, you have to download the theme zip file from a third party site or WordPress repository. After this, you can upload the downloaded.zip to your site. Just click on Appearance >> Themes.

After that click on Add New button at the top.

In the next screen, click on the Upload Theme Button.

Here select your downloaded theme zip file then click on Choose file >> Install Now Button. after installing, you will see a successful message with Activate and Preview link.

Click on Activate button, now you have successfully installed and activated WordPress new theme on your site.

Using FTP method


If you do not install a WordPress plugin using the above methods then you can use the FTP method. This method is slightly advanced.

First of all, download the theme file, then unzip it, and upload it to wp-content >> Themes folder using FTP software. After uploading go to your WordPress admin area and click on Appearance >> Themes. Here your uploaded theme will appear, now click on Activate button.
