After activation, Akismet Plugins will add a new menu item to your Wordpress dashboard. Click on Plugins >> Akismet (Jetpack >> Akismet Anti-Spam) for Akismet Configuration. It will redirect to the Akismet settings page. Here you will be asked to enter an Akismet API Key.
To Setup Akismet plugin on your website, you must have an Akismet API key. Visit the Akismet website and get an Akismet API key.
Here you will be able to see Akismet plans. Akismet API key is free for personal sites. Choose a plan according to your requirement.
Click on the Sign Up for Akismet API key. This will take you to the next screen. Here you will be asked to sign up with WordPress.com. Click on continue to Sign up with WordPress.com.
If you have already a WordPress.com account, you can log in. And if you have not, fill out your details and create one.
After login to WordPress.com, You will be redirected to the Akismet website again. Here you have to provide details for the payment. If you have chosen a free plan, just slide the price amount to $ 0.
Click on the "Create Subscription" button. Now it will bring a pop-up, in which you will see "Thanks! Your Akismet Basic subscription has been created".
After clicking Got it you will be able to see your free API key.
Now copy your Akismet API key and log in to your WordPress dashboard. Then click to Plugins >> Akismet Configuration and paste your Akismet key. After this, hit on Save Changes Button.
Now the Akismet plugin will start protecting your website from spam.
