What is XML sitemap

Why is Sitemap XML file Necessary?


XML sitemaps are very useful for new websites and blogs. If your blog is new, then search engines will have trouble finding all your posts and pages. But if you create a sitemap for your website, then this sitemap XML file tells all search engines about all your website URLs, and search engine bots crawl all the URLs of your site very well.

With Sitemap XML file, search engines estimate how often your site is updated, accordingly search engines set a crawl rate for your site.

How to create Sitemap for website


There are several ways to make WordPress website XML sitemap. But to create WordPress sitemap, we will use the Yoast SEO plugin. Because it allows Search engine for optimization of our blog post with free XML sitemap along with offering Social Profile and other features. This is the best sitemap plugin to update sitemap file, as well as it offers to create Video Sitemap.

To add Sitemap to your WordPress site, first install and activate WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin. By default, the XML sitemap is not enabled in Yoast SEO plugin, so you have to enable it. To do this, go to SEO >> XML Sitemaps and enable the XML sitemap function.

When you enable the XML sitemap, Yoast SEO will show you many options, which you can configure your WordPress sitemap. If you do not know about these, read this article or click the Save settings button.

Now, your WordPress sitemap XML file is ready. Yoast SEO plugin will show an XML Sitemap button, in which you can view all your website URLs. As you can see in the above screenshots.
